Send user message without Lock Request

I am trying to write something to allow users to send messages back and forth through DOORS without having to use the lock request message. Would like to be able to show users who is in DOORS and let them send a message even if the user doesn't have a module locked.

This would be very useful on our classified network since there is no instant messaging software installed, there must be a way to do it I just cant find anything documented about sending a message to just one user and not a broadcast message.

Anyone try anything like this before?

Many have wished for this capability but the DOORS vendor hasn't ever listened to the request.

hm, I guess you could write some DXL based on the
sendEmailNotification()
or
sendEmailMessage()
command, to enable users to send emails to other users from DOORS,
but then, this probably is not what you are looking for.

We already had this discussion, but I can't remember whether it was on this forum or on Telelogic's one.

What I do remember is writing a short DXL using the windows' "net send" command to notify users from their "systemLoginName" property value.

Will dig my archives.

Found !

void sendMessage(string username, string message) {
    if (!existsUser username) return
        User u = find username
        string s = u.systemLoginName
        system "net send " s " " message
}

Thanks, however I can't use net send on our system. It seems there would be an un-documented function for sending a message since the lock request does exactly that.
